Puncture Proof Dog Pools

Puncture Proof Dog Pools

Pools are not just for Retrievers and Water Spaniels. In fact, most dogs absolutely enjoy being in the water.

Unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury of an in-ground pool, nor are we all lucky enough to live in a beachfront or lakefront property. For dog lovers with your average home, a puncture-proof dog pool would do just fine.

The problem with using typical kiddie pools for dogs is that they’re not designed for the romping that usually takes place when pups are involved.

Dogs nails could easily puncture regular inflatables. Plus, some dogs will likely end up mouthing the lining.

Inflatable vinyl is the most popular kiddie pool option. But, they’re not the best option for families with dogs. To guarantee you aren’t buying new pools every summer, you should consider a puncture-proof dog pool.

Puncture-proof dog pools aren’t necessarily made specifically for dogs. In fact, many of them are made for kids and the entire family. However, these pools are able to handle the roughness of dog-play.

Types of Puncture-Proof Dog Pools

There are generally three types of puncture-proof dog pools to choose from, and the main difference is the material from which they’re made:

  1. Polyurethane – A heavy, hard plastic used to make rigid kiddie pools. Because of its material, it can’t be punctured. But, it also can’t be folded down and stored. This is a good option if you want to have a pool out all year round.
  2. Structural Foam – Similar to polyurethane, structural foam kiddie pools for dogs are rigid as well. However, because these are typically made with injection molding, they usually come in small sizes. They’re usually used as stock tanks in farms, so they’re limited to smaller dogs. It would be difficult to find one big enough for Labradors, much less for German Shepherds.
  3. PVC – Similar to vinyl but they hold their shape without needing air. This is the most popular type of puncture-proof dog pools because they’re affordable, durable, and easy to stow away once the summer is over.

Why You Should Get a Kiddie Pool for Your Dog

Playing in the pool is a good way for dogs to have fun and exercise at the same time.

During the summer months, it is also an enjoyable way to cool off under the sun. What’s great about a kiddie pool or a dog-proof paddling pool is that dogs can enjoy the water even if they don’t know how to swim.

These pools are usually shallow enough to let them romp around in the water without having to be submerged in it which is a great way to cool them off and have tons of fun.

Top 5 Puncture-Proof Dog Pools

As someone with a German Shepherd who absolutely loves to swim in the summer, I’ve spent some time researching some dog-proof paddling pools available today.

Here are the five that I would recommend to anyone with a playful dog like mine:

All for Paws Splash and Fun Dog Pool

The Splash and Fun dog pool by All for Paws requires no inflation. All you need to do is spread it out on a flat surface (an even part of your garden works!) and fill it up with water. When packed, it’s around 16 pounds, so it’s easy to carry and set up by a single person.

The Large size is 63 x 12 inches, which is more than enough space for a German Shepherd and even a companion to romp around in. If you have smaller dogs, All for Paws also has a Medium (47 x 12 inches) and a Small (32 x 10 inches).

The All for Paws Splash and Fun Dog Pool has a water-design printed exterior and a light blue interior color. It’s made of tough PVC with thick cardboard interiors to stiffen the walls. Also, it has an anti-slip bottom, which is important even for dogs.

When you’re done for the summer or it’s simply time to pack up, this dog-proof paddling pool is easy to drain using the side drain valve. Then, it folds down neatly for easy storage.

What I love:

  • Easy to set up
  • Made of tough PVC
  • The anti-slip bottom really works

Possible downsides:

  • The cardboard interiors may not hold up for too long
  • It’s more expensive than other pools of the same size

And the verdict is…

I would definitely recommend this, especially to families with multiple dogs or pups that get overly excited in the water. The anti-slip bottom will keep them safe, even when wrestling and playing rough.

BingPet Collapsible Dog-Proof Paddling Pool

The BingPet Collapsible Dog-Proof Paddling Pool is a non-inflatable pool made of high-grade PVC that’s thick enough to withstand the teeth and nails of your playful pup. For rigidity, it has pressed wood panels that also allow the pool to fold up accordion-style when you’re ready to store it.

The XL size of this pool is 63 x 12 inches. For a German Shepherd, that’s plenty of room to play around and make a splash with a friend. BingPet also makes a Large which, at 47 x 12, is enough for even two Golden Retrievers to cool off.

The BingPet Collapsible Dog-Proof Paddling Pool has a light blue exterior color while the interior is dark blue. It has a perfectly textured flooring to keep both dogs and kids from slipping.

It also has a large drain valve, so it’s easy to remove the water when you’re done. Additionally, this pool has a handle at the side to make it easy to maneuver when you’re getting ready to set it up.

What I love:

  • Easy to set up, especially with the handle
  • The drain valve is exceptionally large, so it empties out quickly
  • The flooring can withstand scratching

Possible downsides:

  • The dark interior color sometimes makes it hard to see submerged toys, but we usually use floating toys anyway, so it’s not a big deal.

And the verdict is…

It’s a great, affordable option for dogs (and their humans!) to enjoy the summer. I especially recommend this for families with dogs that like to “dig” and make a splash in the water because the flooring will hold up.

Kopeks Round Heavy Duty Pool for Dogs

What makes the Kopeks Round Heavy Duty Pool for Dogs extra special is that it is a collaboration between Kopeks and Khomo Gear.

Khomo Gear is a world-renowned brand known for outdoor furniture protection products while Kopeks has long been known for high quality, specialty pet accessories like orthopedic beds. Together, they have designed a remarkable yet affordable pool for dogs.

The XL size measures 63 x 12 inches, which is great for large dogs and families with multiple dogs. Kopeks also manufactures a slightly smaller Large at 47 x 12 inches.

No matter the size, this dog pool boasts a stylish dark blue exterior combined with a fun light blue interior.

It’s made of industrial-strength PVC and held up by pressed wood panels. It features a twist-off drain cap to empty out the pool quickly. And, it folds neatly, so it’s easy to store or take with you on your family adventures.

What I love:

  • The design really sets it apart from other dog pools
  • Industrial-strength PVC lets it hold up to typical dog play
  • The sides are rigid enough for dogs who tend to lean on the walls or have trouble getting out

Possible downsides:

  • The flooring is durable enough for nails but possibly not enough for scratching or digging.

And the verdict is…

I definitely recommend this for families who value design. A great combination of style and durability will make this looks great in your yard all summer long.

Jasonwell Foldable Dog-Safe Kiddie Pool

The Foldable Dog-Safe Kiddie Pool in XXL is 63 x 12 inches. That’s enough room for a large dog and two small children to enjoy the water. For smaller requirements, Jasonwell makes several other sizes from S (32 x 8 inches) to XL (55 x 12 inches).

This kiddie pool for dogs is foldable, portable, and easy to store. It is light blue on the outside and dark blue on the inside.

For extra rigidity, the walls are held up by high-density fiberboard and covered with remarkably tough PVC, which makes it extra dog-proof. The flooring is made of a textured material, which keeps dogs and children from slipping.

When you’re done for the summer or it’s simply time to change the water, the drain valve helps you quickly and easily empty it out. What’s great is that this dog-safe kiddie pool comes with a carry bag that makes it more convenient to store as well as take with you on your family trips.

What I love:

  • The wall can take the beating of large dogs jumping in and out
  • Textured flooring really keeps dogs from slipping
  • Comes with a convenient carry bag

Possible downsides:

  • The flooring might not hold up for extraordinarily energetic and long-clawed dogs.

And the verdict is…

This is definitely an excellent choice for families with multiple dogs and small children. If your pups engage in just the typical dog roughhousing, you should be able to enjoy this for many summers.

Pupteck Foldable Dog Swimming Pool

Although Pupteck is best known for its pet collars, harnesses, and other small accessories, their dog swimming pool is actually pretty remarkable.

What immediately catches the eye is its gray exterior complemented by its dark blue interior. Like most dog-proof paddling pools, this one folds down neatly into an accordion. Plus, it comes with a clear carrying case for easy storage and transportation.

The XL Pupteck Foldable Dog Swimming Pool measures 63 x 12 inches. That’s typically as large as dog pools go and that’s enough for even 2 Labradors to cool off under the sun. Smaller sizes include an S (32 x 8 inches) and an L (48 x 12 inches).

The walls of this dog pool are made rigid by pressed wood panels. That’s covered by extra-tough PVC that holds up to some chewing as well as some roughhousing.

The flooring is made of a thicker, textured material that makes it slip-resistant. As with most other dog pools, a convenient drain valve can be accessed towards the bottom of this one to make emptying it out a breeze.

What I love:

  • The flooring is noticeably thicker than most other dog pools
  • It stands up even when it’s not completely filled with water
  • It’s rare to find dog pools in colors other than blue

Possible downsides:

  • Although the PVC is remarkably thick, it won’t hold up to persistent chewers. But for as long as you supervise all playtimes, this should do just fine.

And the verdict is…

I definitely recommend this to all families, especially those with extra playful dogs. This is also a great choice for those with senior dogs because the anti-slip texturing will really keep them safe from slipping.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the right puncture-proof dog pool for your family will guarantee extreme fun, especially in the hot summer months. Any of these five choices will work well for you.

Once you’ve decided on one, you won’t regret it. It’s incredibly amusing as well as heartwarming to watch your dogs’ excitement and happiness just for being able to play in the water. Additionally, it’s a great way to tire them out and cool them off at the same time.
